    Engine temp gauge

Hello hoping someone can help to tell me if this is a problem or not, when my engine heats up my temp gauge goes
Up bit slower then normal but when it's just over 80 and I turn my heaters on it will then drop back down to nothing, some times just hover just under quarter what Is the reason for this ?

Happened in my coupe earlier in the week too, and i searched this site all day sunday and saw that a dodgy thermostat could be to blame, thats just from what i read on countless threads about the 1.8 engine lol

Does sound like a sticky thermostat, I've just done mine because I was doing a whole 8 miles across town in a morning before any temp was registered on the gauge, it now pops up to 85 after about 2 miles.

Don't forget it is a little colder out there this week, so if your rad's nice and clean it should be more efficient than it has been.

No harder than changing a set of spark plugs really, I got the thermostat on it's own for just under a tenner, or you can get the whole housing with the 'stat and a new temp sensor for about £55. A litre of anti-freeze to top the coolant back up with is a good idea too.

Is it worth getting the whole lot or just the stat?

Where you get the stat from mate just rang the local motor factor and they only sell the lot and not just the stat
