    Exclamation Mk4 1.6 8v hesitation

Another problem arose this morning with my 1.6 8v...

On the way to pick my bro up for work i noticed the car was slightly hesitant... thought nothing of it, but when i picked him up & set off in 1st gear it was VERY kangaroo'ey & stopped revving at about 3500rpm, changed to 2nd & same again very jumpy, loss of power but revved further up to about 5000rpm... then 3rd was fine...

After that it was ok again

The above is a thread i posted last week regarding my car smoking white smoke.... Today the smoke was bad when the engine was cold BUT more or less cleared up once warm... Doesnt seem to pore out when i rev looks to me more like steam from the exhaust but im not a mechanic hence the questions lol... Water has gone down a very tiny bit since topping up tho (no more than a cm on tank)

The other thing to note is that it has been absolutly hooning it down all night & day - VERY wet & windy & cold... Could something of got a bit damp???

Just after a bit of reassurance really, dont need any big problems @ this time of the year!!!

    Thanks

Once warm all back to normal?! If any one could help and let us know what we need to do!

Smoke = bad = head gasket or piston rings at fault. Probably. You also get condensation which you'll notice more on colder days so it may just be that.

This could also explain the hesitation.

Other option is the EGR valve is on the way out, these cause those exact hesitation symptoms when they are beginning to stick.

^ cheers for the info guys.... smoke (steam?) is worse on a cold day so fingers crossed its just the condensation

Iirc when a head gasket goes white steam pours out of the back when you rev (like diesel smoke on high boost )... this seems to settle once warm & deffo only "floats" out of the exhaust rather than "pour"... if u get me? lol

Been fine since anyways, still keeping an eye on my water levels...

    Cheers.

If it is new enough to have a coilpack then it doesn't have HT leads - what age is the car?
