Not posted or being on much of late as I have been enjoying my time off and just enjoying things for a change. So between travellling I figured time to finish modding my car before I move on.
So it has taken me a while but finally these are the last mechanical mods for my VXR.
First off the brakes.......Not the usual brake upgrade that people go for on the VXR as it is normally AP and Alcons but TBH having seen/used these brakes before and spent extensive time with there R&D people last year and also knowing that they are used as OE suppliers especially in the far east, I knew just how good they actually are. So when a group buy came along I jumped at the chance. Bit of long drawn out process as I wanted blue calipers and they had just stopped offering other colours, but they did us the favour and hey presto new brakes arrived at a price that was well ridculous for just what you get.
So my K-sport 8 pot 356mm disc big brake kit.
Now I am currently running these with some ebc yellow stuff pads but this is only because my prefered choice of pads (Pagids) where not offered by the supplier. But thanks to my contacts, Pagid will be suppliying me with a selection of both fast road specific pads (RS42's and a set of RS5 pads). What is so unique about this is that they do not currently offer fast road pads as they only offer track specific pads (RS5's, RS15's and RS29's). Nice and I look forward to trying them when they arrive....
But just how good are these..... well immense, they are super progressive and have no fade at all even when pushed to the extreme. In fact there performance is not far off the performance of my carbon ceramic setup on my E63.
Oh and before I forget the brake fluid used was ATE super blue.
While I was at it I also fitted a set of Courtenaysports braided rear brake lines and also replaced my rear discs and pads (well they were a bit worse for wear).
Oh and before someone says something I know my painting skills are shocking but they will be sorted by the bodyshop next month.
So with the brakes sorted it was time for the final mechanical mod........
A Quaife LSD to be fitted with some Millars 75W-90 gearbox fluid. Again it sort of came about because of a group buy..... but then again not really it was a group buy spurred me on to get one bought.....
BTW the items on top of the box are the Timkin bearings
So that is it mechanically for my car..........
The only things left are the last bodywork mods, of which here is one of the final pieces. Desgined by me when I came up with the rear diffuser mod and fine-tuned by my friend. It took an age to get made but it has now and special thanks go to the company in Germany for making it for me. In case anyone wonders, it is a one off and fits onto the VXR front bumper perfectly. So no, no one will be supplying these or making up a batch as this is as said a one off.
It is being fitted soon enough i.e. December or January but down to when the bodyshop can fit me in as I need a few more mods doing (to remain secret for now).
Now sick and tired of loosing skin when working on the engine area of my car I decided enough is enough and fitted some of this. No more lost skin and it actually looks better with it on. Can you guess what it is?
And lastly I finally fitted this fascia which was sitting in my cupboard for over two years. Looks way better then then others and a lot more secure in terms of theft prevention.
So with the bodwork mods due to be completed by end on January the only thing left is to redo the soundsystem, and that will also be done by the end of January. After which I have been asked (repeatedly and I have turned then down repeatedly as I wanted the car to be finished) to get my car featured in a magazine, so I will finally let them do that. A fitting end maybe or not.
So the end is now nigh on mods for my car. This car is staying for at least another year to a year and a half after which it will be time for a change in car and well local as well.
