    Exhausts...

    Hi,

I bought an Irmscher backbox for my Astra 1.6 Sxi recently and i've noticed that the sound hasn't altered at all. I've been looking into Sportex straight through exhausts which i'm sure would give it a more throaty sound but I was wondering if there is anything i could do to my current backbox to achieve that sound? I'm not to good with how it all works so any advice would be helpful.

P.S I heard straight through exhausts can reduce your engine power if it isn't built for one, is this true?

Irmscher are all show and no go when it comes to their factory backboxes

the best thing u can do is replace your standard centre section for a straight through unsilenced version

these can be had for between £40-80 depending on which brand u go for

Sportex, GT3, Cybox, Remus all make versions

just make sure the mating fitting is the same between centre section and rear box - ie flange or sleeve

    HTH

So what you are saying is I should replace the centre section and keep the Irmscher backbox to give it more sound? Or do you mean i should just scrap the Irmscher backbox and go for a whole system from one of the manufacturers you mentioned? Are they hard to fit?

    right first time

keep the irmscher rear box - afterall u bought it so u must like it

mate it up with a centre section for about £50 and you're sorted

the irmscher rear boxes seem to come to life when a non-resonated centre section is fitted

    easy to fit

especially now you have a new rear section so that will come off no probs

obviously the 2 bolts that end (presuming its a 2 bolt flange fit)

the front end is the good old fashioned sleeve fit, so one pipe slips inside the other then held in place with a U clamp

Ah, thanks a bunch, what centre section would you recommend? Would it affect performance at all? Once again thanks a lot for your help

I heard straight through centre sections increase power.. albeit marginal.. not sure if there's any truth in that lol
    I have a GT3 one and can't complain!

its just a bit of pipe with a few bends, a flange and some hangers

    not rocket science

go with whichever is cheaper is my advice
