    Temperature not being maintained

    Hi guys,

My car (Astra G 1.8 16v) takes a fair while to get up to operating temperature, particularly if the outside temp is less than 10 degrees. On my 15 mile drive to work (local roads and 5 miles of dual carriagway) it barely gets above the 80 mark. If I turn the heater knob to hot the temperature can almost drop back to 0.

    New thermostat?

Should the guage be on the central line (90 degrees)?

Any advice on changing the thermostat, shortcuts etc? How easy is it to bleed the cooling system? Heater on hot and leave the expansion cap off for a while?

Any ideas how much they are?

    Cool ta, will change it.

    Any advice on changing it?
Do they go often on the 16v models? I know they were prone on the 8v's

    Hi guys,

Vaux have quoted £46 for a complete unit inc thermostat. Is it worth changing this rather than just the stat its self?

With regards to bleeding the system after fitment, is it just a case of whack the heater on and run the car up to temp, top up water as required?

    Cheers,
    Mike.
