    X20XEV problems.... correct diagnosis?

    Hi guys
I bought an Astra MK4 SRI the other day that seems to be a very good buy if what i think is wrong with it is all thats wrong....

the problems that i'm wanting a second opinion are simple...
The oil temperature gauge works inermittently, ocasionally ticking on, sometimes only reading a very low temperature and sometimes not working at all. first step is to check the connection which i'll do in the morning but am i right in thinking its just above the gearbox on the right hand side of the engine block?
There were two fault codes given on my KTS200 at work regarding this so it should be the sensor/connection, right?

The cat needs replacing, but as there's no secondary lambda sensor on the exhaust, would this push the car into Limpo? I know some vauxhall engines work badly after being de-cat'ed and others work better, like the X18XE1.... Is this lump one of the ones that run badly without a cat, or is my limpo and juddering acceleration more than likely down to the faults regarding the oil temperature sensor?

    Cheers for any help guys.

    Jim

I've never heard of a MK4 Astra with a factory fitted oil temperature guage in the UK. Can I check you mean this and not the coolant temperature guage?

Welcome to AOC by the way

    Sorry, mis-labled....
It is the coolant temperature gauge.
The error code is for the "oil coolant temperature sensor".
Not sure where i can find this though. Has anyone got any photos or directions to find it??

coolant temperature sensor is on the right hand side of the head as u look at it from front

its accessible with a 19mm deep socket or ring spanner thru the coil pack carrier/water housing

heres a pic of it on the turbo ZLET model but its identical on the XEV

** not the best pic but only one i have already uploaded

Ok i've located the suspected faulty sensor. Cheers GeordieBandit!!
Upon close inspection everything seems to be as it should so i'm gonna replace the sensor as soon as possible and see if that makes a difference.

    Fingers crossed!!
