    Newb: Advice Needed!! :)

    Hello All,

New to this forum today, so hello!!
Just looking for a bit of advice in buying a MK4 Astra.

Im 22 and have held a license since August 2007, driving a Corsa C.
Don't have any no claims due to cancelling my insurance to swap for a bike in the summer months.

My question is, which engine Astra is a best bet, more reliable, good MPG etc etc. My Corsa has been near-on bullet proof up until the oil switch went just recently. (Z14XEP)

I've read a few reviews and been to see a couple of different cars, but figures I would be better off asking for advice on an Astra forum.

Insurance is more or less the same, doesnt matter what engine:

    2.2SRi / 2.0SRi Turbo - £1200 per year
    2.0GSi - £1450 per year

I was expecting this.. having no NCB yet.

I have seen a couple of C20LETs as well, but then reliability may become an issue if its a quick conversion..

Just looking to buy in the next two months and being that I'm so keen, I felt I'd get advice as soon as I can..

    Any advice is appreciated.

to be honest the 1.8 is the best, and most reliable engine. Reasonable mpg, excellent performance on the sri model.cheaper to insure .the 2.0 litre engine does not have the most reliable ratings, if you research it.
