Can you tell me what these are?

I had a problem with some rubbers leaking oil in another thread so I took them off and resealed them. I had to undo a connector plug and a nipple with a pipe which diesel goes through. Since doing that I cannot start the car. I need to know what the actual part is (the 4 of them) I know they are not the main injectors and they cannot be the glow plugs (not with diesel going through them?) so what are these? See the pic for what I am referring to. If you can tell me what these are and what they do and possibly why these may stop the engine stating since disconnecting them that would be helpful.

I have just seen elsewhere that these are the top of the injectors.

So by disconnecting the leak pipe nipples on the very top (by removing the circlip you can see in first pic) would that have let air in and prevent the engine starting?

Follow the same proceedure that you would if your motor had run out of fuel, should be in the handbook somewhere...
N.b. any opinitons expressed above should be ignored and considered 'ramblings', under no circumstances should they be relied upon...
