    boiling water problems

    Hi, can enyone advise me i have an 07 astra 1.6 mk 5
    went out today done approx 3 miles when i noticed steam coming up from bonet lifted the bonet the coolent bottle was boiling and bubbling red hot i let it cool down there was no signs of eny water escapeing enywere
    the coolent bottle was empty refilled .it by the time i got it home it was boiling hot again let it cool down a bit then whent to release presure and the bottle filed back up and overflowed there dose not appear to be eny water on the oil on dip stick eny advise would be apreciated thanks.

    duff thermostat?? headgasket on its way out??

    I'll second that - air lock, thermostat stuck closed, head gasket, are all possibilities.

    Most likely to be the head gasket.thermastats are designed to "fail"
    in the open position . You may have an air lock,if work has been done on the system very recently.but its the" gas bubbles" in the coolant that are coming out thro the coolant system.

    run out of coolant,head warped,this bubbling and boiling over is common,had one on a car with only 100 miles on from new,required an engine as got too hot and bores scored too

    thanks for all your help, refilled it up again going to take it out for a spin see if it boils again.

    iv had the same problem with a vectra and it was the thrermostat knackerd the aa bloke was saying at the road side it must be the head gasket as the stats only fail open but thats not always the case

    been out for a run come home checked water level its not boild or lost any water, dont know what to do now, dont help not having a temp guage, the car only got 9,ooo on the clock

    how does the presure system work, if the water bottle cap is not compleatly tight could this cause the boiling problem, any advice please.
