    Philosophy Question Help

    Afternoon all,

A work colleague has just strolled into our office, picked up a board marker and written the following on the white board:

If this is the answer answer what is the question

That is exactly how he wrote it (including answer twice).

He told us it was a philosophy question and that he wanted to see if we could work out the answer by close of play today. None of us have a clue what it could be and Google has brought up nothing. Does anyone here know know what he's going on about?

"what do you call the response to a question?"

that's my best guess, as the answer to that question is "answer"

I see it as the answer being 'this' and the question being 'answer what?'

If it's a philosophical question there is no 'right' or 'wrong' answer.

    For example:

"Can you write a sentence with the word 'answer' appearing twice?"
    "Describe an Oxymoron"

Or, best guess would be the answer and the question are in fact the same.

Just write ''Gandi's Flip Flop'' underneath.

    the answer is not important.

think it's all in the punctuation

If "this" is the answer, "answer what?" is the question!

think it's a statement rather than a question

but feck knows what it means

there is no 'answer' specifically because philosopy questions are designed to have an effect dependent on the person answering the question.

for example a really simple one for you,

why is red more significant than blue?

there is no specific answer especially even if you look at it on a science base, its more on the personal perception.

if you really wnt to throw him, put this below his sentence.

The answer is the question to the answer.
