    Wiper problem has got worse!

    Hi All

Some of you may have seen my thread a few days ago about my wipers being a bit juddery on the first setting, and my speedo moving in time with the juddering whilst stationary.
This has now got progressively worse and they now park all over the place as well, I thought this may just be the typical mk4 problem that I have already had to replace the motor for once about 18months ago, but this time when moving down wards they really struggle to move at all on the first setting, I can actually hear the motor struggling. whilst the speedo moves in time with it.

I'm only keeping the car another month, so don't want to throw a load of money at it. My question is....is it certain a new wiper motor would fix it? and the speedo jumping in time with it as well? if this is all it needs again, i will get it sorted, but if it is something much more major I won't bother. but I figure it's better to sort myself for 50 quid now, than have someone try and knock 200 off the asking price when I come to sell.

sounds like a electrical fault on the wiring, try taking the scuttle panel off and tracing the wire back

Cheers for the reply, I took a punt and bought a new motor from the scrap yard, they work as normal now, and the speedo is back to normal, only thing is they park too far up! it's weird! I turn them off, they go to the bottom and stop, and then they move up again by about another 4inches!
I know you have to fiddle and set the parking position, and I have tried this, but moving it down so they end up in the right position means when i turn them off they bang against the rubber at the bottom, stop, and then move up again slightly.

Could it be this motor is knackered also?

motor again! usual problem with the contacts. it is repairable if you are willing to strip the motor apart and do some soldering!

Hmmm...well had an idea it might be, the one I bought has a 3month guarantee so I could take it back, it's just that it's 40min drive away from me so it's a case of can I really be bothered. and then I would have to pay someone to fit it again. it just feels like dead money and time when I'm getting rid of it anyway!
I'm pretty certain my mate will be buying it now though, and I will see him tomorrow and see if it bothers him that much.
While it annoys me slightly the wipers still arent perfect, I think the main point from a resale point of view is that the new motor has stopped the speedo playing up, because I can imagine to any buyer this would look a lot more serious than it was.

    Cheers for the advice.

Rather than fitting just a motor,
it is sometimes more advisable and easier fitting the whole mechanism,

As said it is a common fault with most,
and it is a pity i didn't see this post sooner, because i have a good tested working spare complete removed from a cabby mk4 04 reg (all mk4's have the same mechanism/motor) although part nos differ sometimes,

Some scrappies sell the motors as tested, but they only test that the motor runs, and not that it parks correctly and considering this seems to be the most common fault, it's not much help.
