    worrying smell of rubber

well got a new thermostat today and got it fitted, whilst at it i changed the coolant again. started the car up and let it run to get rid of the air locks, after about 10 minutes i came back to see smoke coming from under the airbox towards the crank, at first i thought it must be excess coolant from changing the thermostat but then noticed it smelled of rubber!! am a bit worried about it as you would but mainly due to the area its coming from

also whilst im on the subject i noticed the new stat has an extra bit on the side of it that the old one didnt, any clues?

the rubber smell could be coolant that may have leaked into the timing belt cove area, during the changeover of stat, not uncommon and should burn off qiuckly. that is an old style stat cover as that bit sticking out is the older style single pin temp sender

It does it if I'm stood and haven't moved at all so know it can't be the brakes and imagine smoke coming off a ciggy lol, will have a little look around but only thing I've changed in that area recently is the knock sensor, can't see that fowling though
