    2.2 to 1.4 Engine swap

Basically for my first car i would love a MK4 3 door 1.4 astra, cheap on insurance, looks good and just an overall beaut. Thing is they're really hard to find, so if i found a car that had engine problems for example a 2.2 SRi, could i remove the engine and fit a 1.4 of the same year as the car without many problems? Quick reply would be much appreciated as i'm hoping to make a show of the car before my 17th! Thanks alot, Ben.

tricky cars to find, them 1.4 16v Mk4's... will be cheaper to wait for one to turn up, than to mess about with an engine swap. you'll find an engine swap (even downsizing) will still be more to insure than a standard 1.4 16v. have you done insurance quotes for the 1.6 8v though? not much difference in performance or in insurance groups over the 1.4...

there are some 1.4's knocking about though

You would also be paying the insurance for a modified 2.2

i live in Yorkshire being the problem, i have a lot of family in Newcastle so i almost have the choice between whichever, its just the fact that i don't think my dad would be willing to drive 4 hours to pick up a wrecked car or to pay for delivery than one that was close. and gissy do you mean the one for 300? he hasn't replied to any mails.

1500 and putting 3000 on insurance! got a quote of 1700 with new alloys, bodykit and possibly exhaust. so i guess its always changeable, plus then i reckon i could get near enough an extra grand to either go onto insurance or into the car, or lessons!

Im in yorkshire and have a recovery truck so if you buy one and need it moving and have brass up front then its not a problem.

But gt your license etc before buying a car mate

1.6 sounds an option, and the whole point of having it early is so i know my way around the car before my test and lessons, plus i have a lot of private land to drive on so its extra drive time, especially when my dads insured on it too. PeteG the 1.6 option looking at it is exactly the same performance as a 1.4 according to parkers, so cheers! will be easier to do, aviva aren't adding to insurance with the mods either? so might try make a GSi replica.. hmm...
