Not really too sure when it comes to nightlife etc, usually if I go out drinking its during a work evening, which most of the places close at weekends etc.

In terms of shopping you have got Oxford Street, or Westfield which is in Shepherd's Bush which is about 20 minutes west on the Central Line from Central London.

Just stay somewhere near a tube stop then you can get anywhere. They run pretty late iirc.

Try to stop within zone 1 of the tube. What sort of hotel do you want, if your looking for something nice the secret hotels on lastminute.com can be good value for 4/5 stars.

Yeah we want a reasonable hotel to be honest, and nightlife isnt that important really as im sure there will be a bar at the hotel, it was mainly for shopping the next day (GF's choice btw lol)

As Dave said as long as you are near a tube in zone 1 go for the hotel you can afford or like the look off. I can recommend malmassion if it's something you like the look of. Pre book your tube tickets as well, and if you can do the whole journey to and from by train, it's a lot less stress and makes the weekend more enjoyable.

Stay somewhere on the Central Line [the red one].

In terms of shopping it depends on what your looking for, but Oxford Street [tube Tottenham Court Road - Marble Arch [red line] will all take you there.

Staying in Central London is expensive, I would recomment staying in tube Zone 2/3 and even 4. Just getting the train/bus into the centre. If the hotel is simply somewhere to sleep, I would go travellodge/holiday inn etc.

There are also 24 hr night busses which will go to most areas, so you can still party if wanted.

Also there is the 02 [millenium dome] which has a nice evening vibe and it's all warm and inside, that is in greenwich [Jubilee - silver line]

Check the transport for London website for travel info, fares and times - www.tfl.gov.uk
You can't prebook your tube tickets, all you can do it get a daily travel card or an oyster card, which even though you have to pay £3 for it, the money you save can be worth it - especially for 2 days travel...and it's way more fun to 'touch in and touch out'.

Leicester square has a few nice places to eat / drink. But in this unpredictable weather I think westfield is probably the best place to shop
