    mods for engine change?

    Hi guys,

    I have a 1.6 mk4 astra and want to put a 2ltr in it, will i need to make any changes to the suspension or brakes? also if i got a diesel engine would i need to anything else (apart form the fuel system obviously)

    If you're putting a more powerful engine in then I'd have thought uprated suspension and brakes would be a good idea.

    thanks, i do want to uprate them but i was wondering if i needed them done or if i could get away with doing it afterwards to save on paying out all at once

    I think it makes sense to upgrade brakes before performance if you can't do it all at once. The alternative is driving around in an under-braked car for a while - not great from a safety perspective. Unless of course you can be sure that the standard braking set-up will deal with the extra performance adequately.

    Yeah, makes sense. do you or anyone know anywhere i could get a good deal on brakes and suspension. and if it is easy to change from drums to discs?

    With you having a 1.6 i guess you would currently have a 4 stud set up. You would probably need to convert to 5 stud to get the better brake setup. There are guides on here for the conversion. You should be focussing more on the front brake setup rather than the rear also as this does the most braking. You can change from drum to disc fairly easily too as both are standard setups on the astra.
