Mk5, which of the 2 diesel engines are recommended?

Hi all, trying to find out which version of the mk5 astra I should go for? I've heard the 1.6 16v sxi (115psi) is really under powered and costly on fuel. Also it's bad in first gear? So I thought about the 1.7 or the 1.9 cdti, and I've heard the smaller of the 2 is very noisy. I'd love the 1.9cdti 150psi but I don't want a high insurance bill. Any advice guys?????

    theres 4 variants of the diesel 1.7 80, 1.7 100, 1.9 120, 1.9 150

cant say the 1.7 is any noisier than any other diesel i drive or have driven, your always gonna wish you got the faster one

Ive got the 1.7 eco flex model (110bhp) - seems to go just as well as the 120 but only £35 a year road tax

although I cant get anywhere near the manufacturers 62mpg figure even driving it like a complete Tart I couldnt get it above 50mpg

go for the 1.9 150, very nippy cars even standard, £125py tax, 55/60mpg in 6th long driving and 45mpg town driving.

and you can push them to 200+bhp with a map/tuning box
