Laptop not switching on on first attempt

My laptop have started to play up, Happend recently it took a few attemps to switch on by me pressing the on button several times which used to be press once it fires up.

But today it took me 2 hours to switch the bugger on.

Battery is fine and the mains is fine.

Any ideas why its doing it ?? Laptop is 4 years old and the make is HP

    Cheers

I'll give you tenner for it?

    Lol,,,,

Sounds like the power button, if you're feeling adventurous theyre usually reasonably large micro-switches, sounds like its on its way out or a dry solder joint has come loose...

Assuming its the switch, 2 quid for a replacement, no more than an hour for a good engineer to diagnose, replace and test, 50 quid should do it max, however a lot of places will try to tell you that a new power board is needed because their 'technicians' dont know how to use a solder iron...

Your best bet is find a shop that does repairs and sells used laptops locally, usually these are guys who used to have tv repair shops and found they could do laptops too, will get a better deal and better info than you would at say pc worlds tech guys or whatever theyre called...

Oh and one other thought, do you have any other buttons on the laptop? My old one screwed up in the same way but I could still turn it on by pressing the email or media player buttons on the laptop...

    That says a lot.

I'm on an HP right now and it refuses to boot with the battery installed and has been electronically limited to my bedside laptop :P

Try that and another charger, It could also be the power button. As someone said try pressing other buttons to see if it kicks into life.

Once again took me a few attemps to fire up the laptop, Im guessing it will eventually die
No other buttons on the laptop and also removed battery no change still does the same, my sister has the same laptop, tried her charger makes no difference.

Would your sister allow you to take the power buttn panel off and stick it on yours to try?

Also is it an AMD HP?
