THIS IS NOT ACTUALLY THE ENGINE MANAGMENT LIGHT
THIS IS THE ELECTRONICS SYSTEM FAULT LIGHT.i.e
IMMOBILIZER SYSTEM, AND IS WELL KNOWN FOR COMING ON
FOR NO APPARANT REASON. IF THE SYSTEM IS FAULTY,
THE CAR WILL NOT START,BUT IT DOES, OR IF A FAULT IS PRESENT,
IT IT SUPPOSED TO SEND THE CAR INTO A LIMP HOME MODE.
GUESS IT DOES NOT DO THAT EITHER. IF THE RUNNING OR PERFORMANCE
IS NOT AT FAULT,THEN *IGNORE IT.*(OR STICK SOME BLUE TACK ON IT SO YOU CANT SEE IT) IF YOU SWITCH OFF,WAIT 5 SECS,SWITCH BACK ON AGAIN IT WILL MOST LIKELY GO OUT FOR A WHILE,MAYBE A DAY OR TWO. STRANGE AS IT SEEMS MY LIGHT WAS COMING ON AT RANDOM WHEN IT WARMED UP,AND REPLACING THE AIR FLOW METER CURED IT!!!AS IT IS SENSITIVE TO ENGINE TEMPERATURES.
AND MUST HAVE BEEN TRIGGERING THE SPANNER LIGHT TO COME ON FOR SOME REASON. BUT AS YOU REPLACED YOURS!! IT IS STILL READING A FAULT,EVEN THO NONE ARE PRESENT, IT NOW SEEMS.WELCOME TO THE SPANNER CLUB!!

if i switch my engine off then the on the light will be off, for about 15-30 seconds, while it is off the car is so slow nd rubbish, then it will come on nd stay on and perform better, there must be a way to get rid of it, i do have a water leak but dunno if that wud be a problem that would effect that.

on this, same despairing tale. Have you tried the spare key in it??
Or replaced the fob battery,(has to be done in 3 minutes,or it will lose its info)then re- synchronised it,just possible a weak signal reading may cause the immobilizer to think its at fault.

your immobilizer doesnt run from a battery in your key thats for keyless entry! so is the resync thing!your immobilizer gets a signal from the transponder in your key which has NO battery!

just because a code "blames" something it doesnt mean its at fault i could be the wiring to the sensor not the sensor itself!!
have you check the wiring to the maf sensor and cleared the codes properly when a new one was fitted?
