Question Is my aircon working ?

New to forum, but as most newbies, straight in with a question...

I have an 06 plate 1.9 CDTI 150 (recently purchased), when I press the aircon button, the revs dip, the engine cooling fan comes on as far as I can tell the compressor engages.

But my question is whilst driving with the air con on at constant speed the car seems to judder, as if Iím tapping the accelerator, is this how the aircon works on an Astra ? Is it the cooling fan coming on, going off ? and does the aircon really drain the revs that much ?

Any help is appreciated as Iím new to the car and not sure.

    Cheers,

    M@tt.

Thanks for replying Kev appreciate it, it's going back to the garage on Fri for a Drive Shaft seal, so will get them to have a look.

Just to add a further point, whilst the car is at stand still and I press the aircon but the fan kicks in straight away and goes off after about a minute then comes back on etc, etc...

Kev, I take it your aircon actually works...?

The AC will sap a small amount of power from the car but you shouldn't notice it at all unless the compressor is siezing up. If this was the case on idle the car might want to stall when the AC is switched on

The fan switching on and off is normal too

Thanks Autosparks, but the car is OK on idle, if I run the car with a little higher revs it seems ok, but only happens when low reving in a high gear (4th gear doing 30mph)...

Did the peddle test and got code 53007, but that relates to both pressure too high and pressure too low, will get the garage to have a look as this as well
