How high is high mileage for a diesel?

I've decided to go over to the dark side and buy my very first diesel. I've seen a handful with around 100K on the clock. Now I know for a petrol this is quite high but what about a diesel? I'm looking to get a MK 4 Astra ECO4 purely for the incredibly cheap tax and running cost.

I just can't get my head around buying a car with more than 100k on it

Is a diesel just getting 'bedded in' at that mileage?

Jesus christ, that's unbelievable. Are parts generally more expensive for a diesel? I've got 98k on a 1.6i sxi 16v and it's starting to get a bit sluggish already!

My mate had an hdi citreon van with a wopping 300,000 on the clock and sold it as it was still a good runner and we still see it running about now, four years later. It was 3 years old with about 25,000 miles on it when he bought it, it was serviced every month he had it, so there lies the way to keep it going, just service it

Meant to say it only ever needed a clutch..........maybe should buy a citreon

the engine was still strong and it still drove well but being a workhorse the car was badly abused by the people that had it before me.it started first time every morning and never let me down once unlike the transit connect i have now.

The 1.7DTi astra engines are good for upto 500k easily, i knew a taxi driver who had one and the only reason they got rid of the car is cos the doors fell off, never had any major work to the engine either. Also read this... same engine again, http://www.mylocalvanhire.co.uk/vanblog/archives/212
