Well I popped into my closest dealer in Pity Me, which were shocking a couple of years ago, and rather took advantage of me as a young and impressionable youth!. But as they were close I decided to order my timing belt kit, how hard could that be. Anyway, part number 93174265 done!
Well you would have though so. First of all gave the parts chap the part number and reg. So he pops the numbers in... nothing - "sorry mate we do not do a kit for this car", I pointed out I got the number from the trade book. He then waddled off to get the book and browsed through it. "Ah, that is for a 2.0lt, yours is a 2lt turbo, we do not have a kit for that, you will have to buy the parts separately" .... WTF??
Now I never profess to be a mechanic, or that knowledgeable about engines, but I am fairly sure it is the same kit. Anyway, think I will just get the parts off Autovaux - although they are not the cheapest.
I would have thought the parts guys might know a thing or two about the parts they are selling, or am I just being naive?
I usually go to Bristol Street and they are top guys, well except for the dopey makem they have on occasionally, who is as much use as well, a makem!
In summary, dealers = grrr
