    Engine Cooling Light

    Hi All,

Wondering if you could possibly help....

When driving and and then slowing down, when I slow down and dip the clutch and go through the gears the engine will drop revs to 500rpm and the Engine Cooling Light (Yellow box with star in the middle) will come on and I have to rev the engine to bring it back off....

Car has just recently had Timing Belt/Water Pump done to it...

    It's a Z20LET btw..

    Any help would be appreciated.

this is a coolant level light .if the coolant is low,it will flow up and down with the engine revs.and trip the switch.top it up !!! also maybe has an airlock ,if the water pump has just been replaced, and needs bleeding again.

It's not. The coolant level warning will pop up on the trip computer. That light means that there is something wrong with the AC or engine cooling system.

    Coolant level

Keep it simple at first(,as you may not have a trip computer). Check and top up just above the mid seam level of the tank" when engine is cold." If the coolant level changes to below minimum levels,it operates a sensor, this registers as a fault with the cooling system,(hence the light comes on for a short time, and goes out as the level comes back up) on slowing down,as it moves with the engine/torque movement, which happens as you describe.
Cant see how the regassing will alter anything but make the airflow cold,as it should be.
many cars work ok with no warning light issues when the air con needs regassing.

There is no sensor if you don't have a trip computer.
Like i said, that cooling system light has nothing to do with coolant level.

ok,understood, just that in the service records, with the elegance recently bought, there is a note that the "coolant tank and sensor" had been replaced, due to intermittant fault,it says. .so it must be this was put in ,inspite of the fact that mine does not have the trip computor fitted. Wonder if the prior owner took out the trip computer controls ?? If so,is this reversable ??

looking again into the specs of this late 2001 elegance ,see that the trip computer was not fitted as standard till the mid 2002 model,so it seems the coolant tank sensor? was replaced with the later one.The same v/x garage also ticked that the pollen filter had been replaced twice in the past three years, not so ,the one I took out was dated 2004!!.
