the ones on ebay are just solenoids from what i can work out they just release the latch like you would do using the handles but surly it would just re latch its self as theres nothing pulling/pushing the door open.

There not as easy to do as people think! My works demo car has them, they will pop the door enough for you to get your hand in and open it thou without ay springs! fitting the actual solinoid is easy its wiring it up that gets tricky if you dont know what your doing! obviously you need a switch (usually under your mirror) but this cant be wired to a perminant feed as anyone will be able to come along and open the door! Ideally they need to be wired to an alarm through relays so the switches only work when the alarm is disarmed! or you could fit a clifford alarm with channel outputs so they work off the alarms remote! hope this helps abit!

There is no way of telling the switch under the mirror that you've pressed the key fob and unlocked the door though!! Which is why you need to use a aftermarket alarm with a negitive armed output which will open circuit the power to the switches through relays when the alarm is armed! There is no such wire on the factory system! I have 10 years experience fitting this kind of thing to many different vehicles!
