Question Where to put copper grease?

I have squeaky breaks and have checked the pad and they are fine. I've been told to grease the breaks as this may help with the squeaking. Read on the back of the tin I have that I'm not to put any on the pad itself or on the break disc. Where do I put it then? Diagrams would be super!!
