    Help identifying part

When I was under the back of my Coupe tonight, I noticed that part of the handbrake mechanism looked corroded. However, I have no idea what the part is or what it does. I will try and take pictures when it is light, but thought I'd try and describe it first, in case someone knows what I am talking about.

Its just behind where the cable goes into the caliper. It is circular in shape and appears to be coated in rubber.

My worry is that part of the rubber has perished and flaked off and that this will cause problems of some sort.

    Can anyone help me?

It's the mod/redesign vauxhall did to the Lucas calipers to rectify the sticking issues that the Bosch ones suffered with.

I wouldn't worry about them flaking etc, as long as your brakes work.

    Here is the part:

Its right in the centre of the picture, with a washer and a bolt through it.

it is merely a resonance damper that was a modification to the calipers to stop them being noisy in use

Nope. Not yet had an Astra/Zaf that they weren't corroded on. Salt does that to rubber.
