    Oil Leak

I recently changed my rocker box gasket which started a oil leak. I thought its best not to mess about and went to vauxhall, bought an original gasket and gave it to my mechanic today so that he could put it in. He did a really tidy job but there is still oil dripping from 2/3 places under the car. Is there a likely reason why a simple rocker box gasket replacement could have started this leak?

Is it actually leaking from the new gasket or is it from the underneath the car?

It might have been where the old oil from the previous leak was not washed off so its still dripping off.

Might be an idea to get the engine steam cleaned and then see if its still leaking.

Or like my rocker cover (X20XEV), it might be warped. I replaced the rocker gasket twice (once under warrenty) only to find that the cover was twisted slightly.

I'll say the bolts were over-tightened, they're not meant to be much more than finger tight

It seems to drip from different places but does so for about an hour after the car gets parked up and then it stops.

What engine do you have? My Vectra rocker cover gasket was replaced, and it was then I discovered that the sump gasket and oil return pipe gasket were also leaking. I'd give it a good clean, go for a drive and then look at the engine again. This should show where it is leaking from.

Where abouts is the oil under the car? What car is it?

Just a thought, but check your oil pressure switch. Mine was leaking and eventually went pop leaving me at the roadside waiting for the AA as it was piddling oil and left my oil light on. £8 and 30 mins to fix it. Took an extra 3.5 hours to get home though

Update - I got the car to the mechanics and he has managed to reduce the leak down to a few drops in 24 hours. He said to me that he is sure the leak is not from the rocker gasket any more and any remaining leak is most likely coming from the sump gasket.

He mentioned he would have to remove a part of the exhaust to remove the sump cover. Any ideas what a reasonable price for this job would be?
