    Log book question

I received my log book through the other day and looked at it today and when i bought it the guy said that it was a 2002 but the log book says manufactured in 2002 but first date of registration 06 02 2003. So it wasn't registered till 2003 so that makes it a 2003 model doesnt it.

No its still an 02 model - just late registered

in the same way the same car could have lay dormant at a dealers for 4 years then registered but it wouldnt make it a 2006 model seeing as the mk4 wasnt in production then..... ok daft explanation but u get the idea

    It's a 2002 spec, but it's a 2003 car. It's the registered date that matters for re-sale purposes.

    As mentioned above...
When I worked for BMW a few years ago we had several cars that were bought ( a certain number had to be bought from BMW) and left in "storage" until sold. Some were there nearly 2 years...

    What they said ^^

Build date and registration date are very different sometimes.

My Manta was built pre August 72 but registered July 73 so had sat around unregistered for at least a year (probably outside, in good old British weather).

Doesn't bother me because it means it scrapes in on being classified as a Historic vehicle and means free road tax!!

Likewise, a mate has a Manta that was registered the month before mine, but had sat around for only a month or two and therefore doesn't qualify for free road tax.

    He wasn't impressed...
