    Cool getting a 1.4i to 123bhp

    i have a 1.4i 2000 astra LS
and my mate copyed me but he has to do evorything better so he got a
    1.8i SRi 2002
    i have 88bhp
    he has 123bhp
    (source:http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/specs/...aspx?model=993)

my ideal goal would be to increase my BHP by 33
not sure if i will go ahed with it but i need to know what mods i could do and how much they would cost

iv alredy ruled out engine conversion and turbo

the car curently only has a K&N+derestrected air box+oversived intake pipe (similar to veccy c mod)

    what next
    im greatfull for all sudgestions
if it ant broke, don't fix it.....mod it! MK4 flip keys £13.99

not necceserilly in this order but you would need quite a bit of mods.

either regal style inlet manifold or powerbox inlet manifold.

    fast road cams.

    ported and polished cylinder head.

straight through catback exhaust no bigger than 2" bore

    4-2-1 exhaust manifold

    sports cat

then a remap last to make most of all mods.

285mm Brake upgrade (same size as 1.8 brakes)

You may get the bhp but you'll never get the torque and that'll mean he'll still be faster!

face facts its such a waste of time tbh youll always be the under dog in this one because
tuning your 1.4 engine will cost an arm an a leg to even get anywhere near that kind of power and possibly still not be as quick

you could spend the tuning money on a bigger engined model in the 1st place

Don't even attempt it, your car has all the power of an asthmatic ant.

All those mods listed above won't guarantee 33bhp extra, the best way would be a turbo conversion, but tbh it might not even give 33bhp.

Want to beat him? Go and buy an Astra SRI-T/GSI/Coupe Turbo... or maybe just realise that racing on public roads is for morons.

The simple answer would be to sell your 1.4 and buy a 1.8, also adding 33bhp to your current 88bhp will leave you 2bhp short of his 123bhp.

The amount your gonna spend on all the mods you need just to keep up with the 1.8 is probably going to cost more than the insurance on a turbo, and im not sure youd even be able to get there.

Id save your money for a new car

    thanks ben
shame i cant say the same for the rest
im not going to buy an astra gsi as the insurance + car is shy of £10000
i may get a 1.8 when the insurance gose down a bit but i havent decided yet
i was thinking of a 1.6 because most of the things ill be adding on would be interchangerbel but it only gives 10bhp more which is a bit pathetic

i understand that its hard to get the extra power but its more of a what if than anythink else

and as for scott you asuming iv raced him
    which i have not

    edit: i just check insurance and once i have 1years ncb then a 1.8 is 2200 and a 1.4 is 2000 what a joke seems i will be getting a 1.8 then

    question is now
what things can i do now that i can transfer to a 1.8?
    not much im thinking
is it posable to change the 1.4 astra hubs for 1.8 ones (from 4 stud to 5) so i can swap my alloys over if i get a 1.8
if it ant broke, don't fix it.....mod it! MK4 flip keys £13.99

You'll likely pay more on insurance for a 123bhp 1.4 than you would on a standard 1.8 as the 1.4 is modified and will attract a higher premium.
