    NCD Protection

I pay 148 for NCD Protection. Is it worth the money? I have 4 years NCD at the moment.

How does it work? Let's say I have a claim, I don't lose NCD, but do I still have to tell my next insurer that I had claims with previous one? Confused

    EDIT:
I must add that my aunt pays 30 for NCD Protection for her Mazda 2, she's got 8 or 9 years NCD I think. Same insurance company.

If you crash without it you will loose the discount so you will go back to having no discount.

If you crash with it you wont loose the discount but you will still have higher insurance as its a 'discount' on the premium they quote for.

I've read it like 5 times and I'm not sure what you mean :P

Why will I have higher insurance? If I have NCD Protection I won't lose NCD as you said. Why premium increase?

NCD is 'Just' the discount on the premium you are quoted.

If you have a crash you wil be a higher risk and have a higher premium but by protecting the NCD you will have the discount applied to the premium.

    IE:

Premium of 1000 with no NCD is 1000
Premium of 1000 with 5 years (If its 50% discount) is 500

The NCD is the discount on the Premium.

Never thought to find out what it costs me for NCD protection but I was under the impression that you can't protect NCD until you have full NCD...

For me this is the first year I can protect my NCD. I think you need to have 4 years NCD before you can start protecting it.

Usually you need full NCD before you can protect it.

If you have an accident without protected NCD they'll knock two years off your entitlement, which is probably 20%, and it'll still be 10% next year too. It's your own assessment of how likely you are to make a claim that decides whether you think it's worth it!

Protection also normally means you can make only a certain number of claims. Make more than about two claims in a year and they'll probably start reducing your NCD anyway...
