    Winter mode on start up

    Hi

    Symptoms:-
My 1999 Astra MK4 auto 16i 8v has recently been starting up in 'winter mode' and the only way I can get out of it is by selecting 2nd gear!!
On a couple of occassions 'Winter mode' has been automatically selected when I slow down at junctions etc!!!
Pressing the 'Winter mode' button has no effect.
    No warning lights yet!!

Any ideas as to cause would be helpful??
Is this also what is referred to a 'Limp mode'??

    Regards
    Gareth

Limp mode is when your engine wont rev over 4k (this only happens when something is seriously wrong)

at a guess id say winter mode is something to do with autos im guessing its very cold outside and your temperature sensor is expecting ice/snow or the sensor is broke

    Yes its an automatic.
No snow here in sunny wales!! As far as I'm aware 'winter mode' should only be selectable via the button next to the gear selector!!
    Cheers

my Astra seems to be stuck in ICE MODE (snowflake button constantly on) and it pulls away in 2nd gear . I have unplugged it and it is still the same . You can select 1st gear so I know its not a mechanical problem , Any Ideas ??
