    Feels slower but sounds fast?

    Hi all,
My 98 Astra Arctic 2 1.6 16v feels like its lacking oomph.
When I accelerate it sounds like I am going faster than I actually amÖdonít get me wrong, its sounds ok but it didnít used to sound this way.
It basically feels like itís slower and less nippy than it was but sounds like its working harder, with a bit of a rumble with a faint gargle sound.
Any ideas on what I should be looking for?
    Cheers,
    Al

I had this problem when I first got my 98 1.6 16v Astra Sport, I checked EGR Valve and air box but still couln't find anything. Was especially bad under more weight i.e. more people in the car or going up hill.
Eventually, I found it was the exhaust manifold downpipe, someone had done a crap diy job on it previously and managed to get a drill bit stuck in place the nut should have been holding it on, sorted that and problem solved! Although this may not be the same as your prob, may still be worth checking the pipe, as well as EGR and airbox.

I'm no expert but hope this helps.
