    Turbo has popped :(

    My turbo has broken. I presume it's the oil seals. I came on boost, it dropped off pretty much all the way and I filled the road with a huuuuuge blue death cloud. I'm now sat waiting to be towed home lol. The next questions where can I get a turbo for as little as possible. I've just paid 205 quid tax and 600 for insurance so funds this month are tighter than a fishes arse. Any ideas?

    Cheers

    Steve

    Bad times ...

    I still have my old turbo that I swapped for my VXR one. I do not know how much life is in it. But it may serve as a stop gap.

    If you are looking new it will be ~£500, auto autovaux seems cheap, but I would check the trade club prices also.

    Just seen this now . Payday is thursday so Im getting one then. I may have sorted some shady trady discount through my mate who works at richard hardy to get the cost to less than autovaux charge. He did also say something about the ones that them and courtenay are selling off for ~£500 being a discontinued version of the VXR unit from europe. Not sure how much truth is in that though.

    Heres a vid of how well it runs with no oil seals for you

    I disagree as oil is pissing out of the exhaust and when I took the turbo off and stripped it you can see its been leaking straight out of where the seal should be.

    :edit: forgot to say, oil and water are clean. Since it went it hasnt used any water and before then it never used any water. The only thing its used is oil which was still dripping out of the bottom of the precat until I took the turbo off. Oh, and there was masses of play in the shaft of the turbo too and when it started to smoke the boost dropped right down, oil pressure dropped quite a bit and the turbo started making some interesting noises.

    These are 2 pics from when it happened and you can see the oil has been forced out of the join between precat and turbo;

    The engine only has 45k on it so I would be very surprised if it was the oil seals.

    Plus the oil was leaking out of the turbo and you can see where its blown past the seals and then splatted everywhere. Theres no oil further up in the manifold but from the turbo down over the entire inside of the exhaust is full of oil. Since the turbo has come off its leaked no more oil and all of the rags in the ports are clean but with the turbo on it was leaking oil constantly.

    Surely if it was stem seals the oil would of been getting burnt off in the engine rather than being able to run into the exhaust and drip out the hole in the bottom of my precat
