y17DT fuel pump and timing problem

Hi there.. I have just replaced the fuel pump on my astra.. 2002 reg. It has the Y17DT engine in it.. I did the timing but i seem to have it wrong.. What i did was got 3 bots and stuck one in the fuel pump and the otheres where they are ment to go.. But i have knoticed that you can tilt the pump towards the engine or away from the engine how to you know where to put it as i know its in the wrong place.. from the way its running.. I hope someone understands what i am trying to ask.. I spoke to vauxhall and they said you need a special tool to sort it out.. is this true or just a way of them making more money.. I hope someone on here could help me out or give me a answer to what i have done wrong or how to over come the problem..

Hi Mate, theres only one hole for the pump pulley. I cant remember which hole but you need the correct sized pin to stop it moving slightly. Mine moved about half a tooth either way when i tried. If you take a pic and post it i can point out the correct hole! No need for any 'specialist tool' for timing up the y17dt.........

Yeah i thought this as well but spoke to several people and they said you do you need a KM-798. you need to unscrew a screw in the back of the pump where the pipes connect to and work out where the piston in the pump is. with a dial guage.. On the pump that is on these... as you can connect the pump up... but you can tilt the pump when its in place.. so when you put the pin in it can still be out of align by a tooth or 2.. I hope someone knows what i mean.. The pump is at the back of the engine...

I know what you mean. If the pin is the correct size (snug in the block and also snug in the pulley), theres no way it can be 2 teeth out or even 1! Mine was the right size and i have no timing issues.
There is a difference in hole sizes between the block hole and the pulley hole. You need a staggered pin. I think its smaller on the block.
