I have a 50" Samsung plasma TV and it is so so much better than the LG LCD one it replaced.

I would reccomend a Samsung, I wouldnt touch the 3D tv's as of yet tho.

Budget? What will you watch - standard definition/HD/BluRay etc.?

Whatever you end up with, check Google for calibration settings - these are likely to improve picture quality loads, more so on the more expensive sets which have more than just the basic brightness/contrast settings.

I'm a Samsung fan myself, ours (LE37650BT) is superb, beats the pants off a relatives £600 Panasonic plasma once calibrated.

Mine is still about £600 online. Handled standard Sky+ input really really well on RGB enabled SCART (set RGB output on the box) and the move to SkyHD was amazing given the TV is FullHD.

BluRay is a step beyond, clarity and depth is outstanding once we got it calibrated.

Out of the box the Sky+ picture quality was horrible, smudgy, blurry and poor colour. Calibration sorted this out .

Relatives have a £300 LG 28" LCD on Sky+ also on RGB scart and the picture is rubbish - there are so few picture settings there's nothing to be done about it. I'd expect more expensive LG sets to be much better though.

Personally, check out brands/models in your budget and decide on the size. Stick the model numbers in Google and add the word 'review' then see how they all fare. Took me a good few weeks of hunting and reading to be sure the Samsung was the right choice for us.

    I got a samsung 40inch lcd 1080i. Running sky+ HD

Picture quality is very impressive. One of my relatives has a hitachi as it was a good deal and the picture on mine is way, way better. And for not a lot of pennies now, samsung all the way

So went online, got the same tv in a 40" for £488 delivered, and got a glass stand from amazon. Saved myself a few quid, and got a bigger tv in the end too.
