    Aftermarket exhaust

My mates got an aftermarket exhaust (backbox, and centre box) on his 3dr 1.8 SXi hatch, which he said he might replace in few weeks. I said ill buy it off him if it fits my car.
My car is a 5dr 1.7 DTi hatch.

    Question is:

Will his exhaust fit my car, and will i encounter any problems if it is fitted to mine?

    Any help is appreciated

    Thanks

I highly doubt it mate cos the 1.8 may have a different diameter pipe and set up where as due to the 1.7DTi being at turbo diesel it needs a larger diameter pipe and possibly a different set up than the 1.8 therefore the 1.8 exhaust will be restrictive. I hope i'm right on this, if i were you i'd get an aftermarket stainless system.

    I see, fair enough.

Any idea where i can get a stainless system (without going custom) for my engine?

No sorry, unlike many petrol vehicles diesels seem to be overlooked in this section so it would have to be a custom jobby. The advantage of this is that you can have a system built to suit your needs. If anything try visiting http://www.powerflowexhausts.co.uk/ and if your interested in what they do, see if you can find a dealer near you as there is a dealer finder part on the website.
    Hope this helps

The only reason i dont want to go custom atm, is its significantly more expensive, and i wont be able to afford it for quite some time.
However, if this is the only way, then so be it

Yea, can be very expensive but worth it when it suits ur own taste really. When i pass my test in a couple of years time my first car (hopefully vauxhall diesel) will hav a custom system on it.

it will fit as long as theyre both mk4 hatchbacks, there all the same except the the petrol turbos (gsi + sri-t), the only difference is the fitment from the centre section to the rear box some have a flange type and later models a sleeve fitment but if its a full system then it wont matter

His is a 3dr SXi, mine is a 5dr TDi. Both hatchbacks.
So if what you say, astrasxicdti, is correct, then my mates will fit

He has a backbox and a centre section. Backbox is a flange fitment to hte centre section, and the centre section is a sleeve to that cat. I checked mine yesterday, and its exactly the same.
