    Improving power & acceleration

I drive a 1.4 16v mk 5 astra and looking for a bit more power with improved acceleration. Obviously it's not going to be major fast with it only being a 1.4..

I was thinking full sports cat or decat exhaust and induction kit but after that I'm not sure what would make a difference..

    All ideas and thoughts welcome

induction kit and exhaust will certainly make it louder... and may even improve throttle response... wont make much of a difference but every little helps

Depends how deep your pockets are mate, but your options are:

Larger air intake pipe- contact beeson1987 £45 posted
I'd recommend a closed induction kit like the BMC CDA, for no heat soak (about £150)
NGK Iridium spark plugs- £8 or £9 each (you'd need four)
Dbilas Flowtec inlet manifold- about £1000 but definately effective (will need an ECU remap after fitting)
Uprated camshafts- varying costs but about £600 but a good mod to do (options for sending your old cams to them for a partial refund on the price)
Lexmaul exhaust manifold- about £400 posted. another good mod
    FSE power boost valve- £90
    Short shifting gear lever
You could buy a cat-back exhaust (from the cat backwards) and also get a decat section but be sure to keep hold of your cat section so that when MOT time comes you will need that put it back in to pass on emissions. Then change them back over, that's what I do. Sports cats are about £250 if you opt for that.
You could look into getting your throttle body enlarged or your cylinder head rebored, and look into forged internals such as pistons, valves, valve springs etc but thats where things can get complicated lol. Most of the above is going to work out better with a custom remap after the mods are applied which is why people say it's best to do this last coz a remap can set you back like £250-£500. HTH
Good luck with what you choose to do and hope your pleased with the results
