    Focus RS Mountune (RS500) - 350bhp - 13.9secs 1/4 mile

Since you've read the title, my question is as follows:

They have obviously measure this performance stat and they won't be wanting the car to be slower than it actually is so I have to believe the figure.

However, people in stock 240bhp Astra VXR's seem to beat this figure.

So who's right? Who's wrong? Who's timing equipment is a shambles? Does a stock VXR beat a Focus RS500 over 1/4 mile?

Here is the source of the Mountune stats and other info:

    http://www.mountuneperformance.com/i...39:latest-news

I can't imagine Mountune or Ford stating their "flagship" car is slower than it is whether it's 0-60, 0-100 or 1/4 mile. At the end of the day, this 350bhp upgrade is standard on the new £35k RS500.

Side note: I don't believe 1/4 mile times from places around the country, sticky tarmac etc gives false results IMO. Nice to boast about though over a pint.

    Side note 2: It seems the stats for a Ferrari 360 Spider F1 (400bhp) are 4.6secs to 60mph & 13.2 secs 1/4 mile (For use as a comparison, the Focus RS500 - FWD - seems pretty accurate @ 13.9secs).

Example of a stock Astra VXR getting 13.8secs: (No proof though, however there's plenty of posts with low 14's if you search and not just on this Astra site)

    http://www.astraownersclub.com/vb/sh....php?p=2387023

    Car comparison:

    Car: Vauxhall Astra VXR
    Engine: 2.0 16v Turbo
    Power: 237bhp (240PS)
    Torque: 236lb/ft
    Weight: 1230kg
    Gearbox: 6 speed
    0-60: 6.2secs
    Top Speed: 152mph
    LSD/ATB: No

    Car: Ford Focus RS500
    Engine: 2.5 16v Turbo
    Power: 345bhp (350PS)
    Torque: 339lb/ft
    Weight: 1467kg
    Gearbox: 6 speed
    0-60: 5.4secs
    Top Speed: 165mph
    LSD/ATB: Yes (Mechanical - Quaife)

    Wednesday is discussion day.

I find both those figures a bit odd , my wife has a Mondeo ST220 much bigger than those and its fairly close.

    0-60 = 6.8s
    1/4 = 15.58s

Which part is odd in comparison to your Mondeo?

Remember, getting sub 5.5secs in a FWD car will require alot of "controlled" power as the rear squats and lifts the front wheels giving no grip on launch.

It's alot bigger than the Astra, has a larger, heavier engine and probably has alot more equipment.

The Focus has a larger, heavier engine over the Astra too making it one of the reasons it weighs more.

So in comparison 0.6s slower over 0-60 with 10hp less and 26lbs less of torque seems to compare in a favorable manner.

would have thought the RS500 would eat the VXR though , I supose it suffers becuase it so lardy (like me)

Where are those figures from? As 13.77secs is faster than the 13.9secs Mountune state for the RS500 (350bhp) upgrade.
