Well i have noticed that everyone on here tell people they need to smash there grill to open the bonnet when the cable snaps/comes off to which i never took much notice too as i had never had the problem.......untill today!
mjl (michael) popped around this morning as he was having issues with his dump valve. so after making a few changes and the bonnet been open and closed about 6 times we went to open it again and the cable had come off the release for the bonnet pin!
So we set about trying to get into the bonnet without smashing the grill as this was the last thing michael needed so after looking at a few ways we had found a way you can get your arm up to the catch. Once we had done that we found that there is a plastic cover under the catch which was stopping us getting to the release. Looked at my SRiT and mine didnt have one so we were confused untill my dad got home and we looked at his derv and found his had one so we set about removing it.
michael got the two 8mm head bolts out of the back of the slam pan which was not a easy taske but got there in the end, then since his arm had gone dead we swapped over and i got agressive and pulled the cover out the way as it was now starting to get annoying as it had took us the best part of two hours to get this far and bent my hand double and pushed to tab and pop went the bonnet!
So this just proves it can be done without smashing your grill to bits!
This was done a GSi which was ****ing hot when we started and was still rather warm when we had finished, didnt have to remove anything under the car, just jack it up!
Yop tip of the day tho had to be -if you have the pastic cover under your bonnet catch then remove it so when your cable does go pete tong you can then open the bonnet easily.
right enough of boring you now. Michael will be along later with pics if anyone wants to see the platic cover to remove that im on about.
