Getting a new Arctic VXR Next week - Security, Price, GAP & Wax questions!

    Hi,

As of next week I will be a proud Astra VXR Arctic Edition owner

Ive never owned a sports car before so I decided to jump in at the deep end, why not!

Ive been reading a lot of internet posts and this car seems to attract a lot of car thieves. Im concerned about this and want to protect my purchase! Ive set aside £1500 to protect my purchase. How can I best spend my money protecting my VXR? I live in an apartment block on the second floor so i'm too not worried about being broken into as we have an intercom system and potential thieves wont know which apartment the keys are in. Ive tried googling immobiliser systems etc but cant seem to find anything.

Also... Ive done a bit of shopping around. But including Partners discount & Finance Allowance im getting the car for a little over 16.5k, is this truelly good value?

The Vauxhall dealership offered GAP insurance which will replace the vehicle for £400 quid. Can any fellow VXR owners suggest any comparable insurance providers but that will save me a few quid?

Finally I have been offered the usual 'Permawax' stuff from Vauxhall. Is this really worth it? Im quite a busy chap and dont have a couple of hours spare a week to clean it myself. Therefore my plan is to valet it every other week. But with this in mind, is it even worth getting the permawax stuff? (I forget what its called).

    Cheers all

Get a tracker fitted as no matter what alarm you have if they want it they will take it.

Atleast with a tracker they should get it back quickly without them stashing it away somewhere.
The truth is always the truth even if you haven't realised it yet...

permawax just another sale gimmick to make the dealer look good too. the car will be full of swirls beforwe you even get it so best get it to a pro valet guru for detailing then keep it maintained yourself

I've always said if I get a VXR i'll factor in a traker with lifetime subscription into the cost of it

I'd just be going for the basic Cobra Track First

Definitely invest in a tracker. i have one in my gsi and it's comforting to know that it won't get that far in the hands of a basic sticky fingered thief.

If it's stolen and shipped etc etc then that's another story

the oe alarm/imob is a good bit of kit, you wont be able to take the car with out the key fob.... which is why they break in and take that. A tracker is your best bet. I didnt bother, got a big dog and gap insurance

make sure you get a good exhaust and remap, then the vxr really comes to life! enjoy your new ride, the artics do look bang on
