    timing belt :(

    i was driving along about 30mph an engine managment light came on and engine stalled, did try starting her but failed to start. so pulled over to find timing belt was loss

    after getting her home we stripped timing belt cover down and found that the belt had snapped, refitted new belt but she wont start propaly now


    wat damage do you think she have done??
    valves or cam folowers??

    and how difcult is it to remove head to see wat damage as been done??

    she is a mk4 1.6 16v sxi on 51plate

    estimated guess mate you will have about 12 bent valves

    if you fitted a belt to her then i suspect you are more than capable of taking the head off ??

    she may have damaged the valve guides as well

    You will defo bent valves/ Head head on them are not to bad to remove can be done in a couple of hours if you have the tools todo it.I did a corsa sport with the same engine and it wasa a pig to get things off as its so small but the astra shouldnt be a problem as theres tuns of room.

    what's inlet manifold like to remove or how do you remove it as it is tight as fl##k

    I have managed to remove exhaust manifold but not like the inlet

    is there any thing else to look out for?? or need anything for when we ready to connect battery up or start her

    sounds like you might benefit from a haynes manual..

    hope you get it sorted ok, if you fix it yourself show us some pics!

    make sure the timing marks are in the right place then you will be ok.

    the inlet manifold will come off with the head

    interesting that, so if the belt goes in astra its relatively salvageable!?

    im a Corsa C UK boy and on corsa's it pretty much new engine, start again from what i've read lol.

    everything is salvagable mate .just depends on how much you want to spend on your motor

    too true, spose with Corsa's it aint really worth it, that'd explain it suppose
