Hi there. I'm new to the forum, so I hope you don't mind if I jump straight in with a question.
I have a Mk4 1.6 auto estate that I've only had a short while, but after a week or so of ownership it started to intermittently judder around 2000 revs and up to 60mph (Most of the time it doesn't do it, but I can guarantee it will a few times if travelling over 10 miles say). To stop it I can simply take my foot off the pedal or give it a bit of welly.
I've suspected from the start that it might be the EGR valve and I've read that it's a common fault in the Astra, so I bought a 2nd hand valve (had done 31k miles) but unfortunately it was a different fit Whilst I had the original EGR valve removed though, I thought I may as well give it a clean with the old carb cleaner to see if that helped, but whilst doing so, noticed it had quite the rattle.
So I was wondering simply whether a fully functioning EGR valve was supposed to rattle or not?...
I'm assuming it's part of the valve making the noise, but not sure if it's supposed to or not. The torx headed bolt on the end of the valve also gave no resistance, either turning or pushing in. I've since asked two different sellers on ebay whether their EGR valves rattle or not... One replied, no it's fine... The other replied, yes it does
If I know it's not supposed to rattle then I know for sure that mine is faulty and which replacement not to buy from ebay
If it is supposed to rattle, then there's a chance it's not my EGR valve at fault... Therefore, could there be any else causing my symptoms?... The coil pack say?...
