    Diesel car for around £3000

In the next couple of months I may decide to get rid of the coupe with me doing quite a few miles with work. I would be looking for a diesel car

Theres a couple of things that i would be looking for if I bought one and would like to know if you guys can think of any cars which match what i need with the car

    • Something Not to old as i currently have an 04 plate coupe
    • A diesel that is quicker than my coupe or can be mapped to be quikcer than my coupe which is a 1.8
    • Decent spec
    • Around the £3000 mark could stretch to £3500

    Any one any suggestions

I will probably get shot for this, but have you considered a MG ZR mk2?
They look pretty tidy and can very cheaply and reliably be tuned to 160bhp & 250lb/ft.
The handling is in a different league to the Astra as well.

My brothers car has shown a few CTR's a dirty pair of heels before now...

Reliability wise it is bulletproof, and even when modded can still achieve 50+mpg

Instead of a SRi veccy, try looking at a SXI. They will be in your price range and they have most of the SRi features.

im a big mg fan, owned zr's zs's and they were all fantastic. a standard zr/zs will piss all over a astra in terms of handling...

my zs 180 chassis is bog standard and my gsi has uprated suspension, brakes etc and the mg would still out handle it

skoda fabia tdi ftw!! a golf tdi, older astra 1.7 cdti ?
Astra T9 estate for sale, see my ebay link!

My choice would be a golf tdi. You may not quite get one on an 04 plate but £3-£3.5k should get you a decent one.
As for an MG ZR I would never even consider anything from the MG - Rover group myself as loads of parts are getting very difficult to get hold of and are on backorder for ages.
