    slighly high idle

Normaly my car (X18 engine) idles at around 750-800 rpm. However i noticed this morning (after 60 miles on the motorway) that it was idling just over 1000rpm. Is this anything to worry about?

I've had the car for 3 years and it's not been done in that time. How frequently should this be done?

As rule of thumb I clean them out when I do a service, chances are it will be very dirty in there and stopping the butterfly closing fully, give it a clean and see what that does for you

Mine also does this. Cleaned out the throttle body and put on a new EGR valve as it packed up and it still does this ever now and again. Just give the throttle a quick blip usually sorts it out though.

As already said using carb cleaner on the throttle body usually sorts poor idle problems.

The plot thickens! I started the car yesterday evening to go home from work and the engine settled at around 1,000rpm. I gave the engine a few revs and it then settled back at around 800rpm. However I then noticed a nasty burning smell! Open the bonnet and there was some smoke coming from the back of the engine and a bad electrical burning smell! After a couple of minutes the smoke stopped and I carried on home. 120 miles later the engine is behaving normally again and the smoke/smell is no more! I'll have to wait and see what happens next I guess... !
