    urgent help!!! possible radiator shagged

    Mornin all,

well I topped up my oil this mornin and forgot to put the oil filler cap on. (i know what an idiot) after driving 10 miles to work there was loads of smoke from the engine radiator fluid dripping as well as oil. I'm so annoyed at myself but there was no bad noises coming from the engine. It's at the garage getting checked over I pray its nothing major cos I'm broke but its not looking good.

    Anyway anyone got a diagnosis?

    Cheers

My diagnosis is that it's not really an 'urgent help'
.....since it's in the hands of the professionals.

Ok apparently the radiator has gone.

How much for new one and repairs? Or can I get a second hand one from the breaker and get that fitted to save cash?

First top the oil back up
then see how it runs when its full of water and oil again
a new Rad your looking at about £40 from a brakers yard or £80 new

not really worth fitting one from the breakers for the price, depending on your engine and whether you have aircon you can get a new aftermarket one from ebay for 40, from vaux expect to pay 100+ as well as about an hour or two labour plus a full engine of coolant, in reality it takes about 1hr to do the job, its just drain, bumper offf, hoses off, rad out, and reverse process...

An independant garage will probably do it for about 150, however, where it was leaking from is a common place, could just be the drain plug...

Dont be tempted to put rad weld in either btw...

Spoke to my mechanic mate and he says bodge it by putting ground ginger in the reservoir wit water and keep topping it up til he can fix it this weekend. Is it worth getting aftermarket one cheap off eBay or getting a vaux one from breakers. BTW I have aircon

    Cheers lads
