Unhappy Im going nuts here!!!!help Please!!!

massive power loss. I'll be as descriptive as i can with the prooblem.

    99 Astra 2.0 SRi X20XEV engine.

Car has trouble starting is the first problem, coughs and then struggles to idle but levels out eventually. Now when the car is moving there is very little torque low down in revs. 1st gear pulls with a it less power than it should but hard to notice, 2nd gear feels like theres nothing there, takes an age to get through the rev range and theres no powerband, if you half throttle and let it crawl up the revs i can feel random power bursts for less than a second, feels like its trying to go but something stopping it, its like that through the rest of the gears. 0-60 rough time is about 14 - 15 seconds. The car is standard apart from an egr blank plate and an irmscher back box. The egr blank plate was put on as i thought that was the cause of the problem. Does anyone know what it could be.

Things i've checked so far are:

    MAF
    EGR
    CAT
    LEADS
    PLUGS
    FILTER
    AIRBOX (removed the restrictive pipes)

Car was fully serviced when i bought it 3 weeks ago and oil level is still fine.

I'm at my wits end and its making me not want to drive the car, if anyone knows what it is can you give a rough guide on how to sort the problem.

    Thanks in advance

I'd definetly try your coil pack next. My Vectra with the same engine is starting to hesitate just like you say and I have a new one to go on soon.

it could be a blocked cat/exhaust. either this, the fuel filter or the coil packs as IainL mentioned.

Thanks guys, i'll change the fuel filter and ignition coil at the weekend, if that doesnt work i'll get the exhaust looked at. Plans in place for a de-cat set up anyway.

    Thanks again.

the egr got cleaned so the piston was moving freely and changed nothing hence why it was blanked off which did make my throttle a bit more responsive. But theres more to add to the problem now, seems to be only when its wet or damp this problem crops up, had a good long dry spell recently and most of the power came back, still felt a bit sluggish but alot better than it was, got up this morning and its chucking cats and dogs down and suddenly powers away again.

okay so the fuel filter was replaced along with the ignition coil and still nothing changed, car still feels really sluggish, is it possible this could be battery related? had to get pushed out a car wash today as the battery died within 3 minutes of being switched off. Seems reluctant to hold a charge. Could it also be a fault with the timing or is the astra g capable of advancing or retarding the timing as necessary?

    cheers

okay further more to add on this inresing problem, revs no longer go past 4500 in any gear, somebody must know what is causing this any help is appreciated.

    Jumpy pulling away
    no powerband
    no torque
    wont rev past 4500.

    Already replaced:

    Plugs
    leads
    filters incl fuel filter
    ignition coil

    already checked:
