    fast road cams z18xe

as above, there's got to been a few of you that have done it, stopping short of transplanting a new engine, as there is nothing wrong with harry's and is running well at some point in the future my plan is to uprate the cams, for those that did it, did you encounter any hiccups? and how did your astra run after cam change?

I cant comment on the z18xe, but on my 2.2 with piper cams the ideal became a bit lumpy except for that it was great.

To make the most of them, get a remap

idle will become irratic, however the advantages for you would be you could run a raised rev limit (7500), get the power curve nice and high and have a mini vtec :P

I would reccommend a remap once cams have been fitted tho to get the best out of them!

i'm not sure, just going from what ive read, it'll be lumpy thats all, if they are mapped in a tuner would smooth it all out for you, the map will bring the cams up to their potential.

Only problem I have found with the cams is that it stalls sometimes. But the `lumpy` noise and `lumpy` feels is nice in my opinion.

I think a lot of tuned engines run lumpy on idle, until you put a few revs on it,
but i do hope it won't be too bad . because the car belongs to a new just past test driver,
I'm pretty sure i will sort it though,
Lol its already a bit lumpy on moving away.
it has a sort of hiccup on smooth acceleration
The thread has been very welcome

If you stick with fast road spec then I doubt they'll have much effect on the idle, certainly nothing to worry about. I've had a car with a fast road cam and once setup the idle was fine. Ffoeg runs cams and the rest on a 2.2 SRi MK4 and the idle is fine - sounds rather nice at idle and darn does it go.

Remap isn't essential but would release a little bit more from the engine, but would be best tied in with catback exhaust and probably the Vectra intake pipe mod.

Cams without exhaust improvements will be a little wasted, all the cams really do is allow a higher gas flow rate, however this usually means more top end power and a possible drop on low end power. The higher top end power is often why uprated cams mean you can get more bhp by raising the rev limit, but this does run the risk of long term engine wear if you go to the new limit frequently.
