99 Astra 8V Chugging on full throttle

    Hi guys,

My 99 Astra 1.6 8v has been needing topped up with water every 2/3 days for the past few months (prob. head gasket on the way out) running fine otherwise, but today when I was coming up to a junction it suddenly started to run quite rough.

It idles ok, however when i rev it with the throttle fully open, it judders and nearly cuts out, but just resting the foot on the accelerator it will rev fine. there's no white or blue smoke when it runs.

I was wondering, has the gasket went completely or has something like the egr valve went?

Hoping to fix it by friday for an interview

    Many thanks in advance!

yeah, i had the carbourettor cover off and it backfires immensely through the carb. I'll take a look round the scrappies up the road to see if i can get these parts on the cheap just to see.

    thanks guys!

Before spending any money, you could try a compression test?! ;o)

its a coil pack, just get it from a scrappy and then sell the car if the gasket is on its way out. Have you put sealant in it yet?
