Still stuck between DTi and CDTi

I know I asked this earlier on this year but since then I've seen loads of threads of people having problems with the 1.7 DTi engines and a mate told me yesterday she knows of 2 people who's DTi engines have died recently.

So for most reliability, which of these 2 engines do I choose? With the future potential of a remap but that won't be until next year ish.

Go for as new as you can afford - always !

As for reliability, any failures on here pale into indignificance when you look at how many are out there on the road....

Totally different engine though so not really what was asked

Can only presume he is referring to the Y17DT or the Z17DTL used in the Mk4 range

The Isuzu Y17DT is one of the best engines ever used in the Vauxhall range, it just goes on and on! Mines currently coming up to 170K and still going strong.

...... but as Coo and others have said, if you can stretch to it then go for the common rail CDTi unit - a far more superior engine and a lot more refined than the old diesel units.

Obviously price is a big factor in all of this but if you can then go for the best you can afford for your money

Yeah it's a Mk4 van I'm getting. I've been looking at prices dropping for months and the CDTi's are only a few hundred quid more which I'd be happy to stretch to.

    Thanks for the help

Why is it a far more superior engine?
