Unhappy Had my Mk4 convertible turbo for 2 days and smoke! help!

    Hi all, great owners club

Bought my Astra Turbo Convertible with 39k on clock a few days ago, chuffed to bits with it, super smooth and making me smile, till this afternoon.

I had been home for 30 mins when i decided to go out again, started car and drove to end of my road and stopped, then the smoke drifted past me, it was blue and smelt of burning oil. It seemed to clear but then at another junction on idle i could see it again just not as bad but still bad enough.

The only other thing I did notice yesterday was when the car was cold (i never let a turbo boost when cold) and pulling away gently i could hear the turbo whinning, wasn't overly loud but thought it odd.

Please help, hate to think that in only 3 days i'm gonna regret buying it.

    Thanks.

Surely the problem must have been there for the previous owner, was it from a garage or private sale, what was his reason for selling.

It was from a dealer. I spent an hour checking the car out, starting, stopping, leaving it idling, tried everything, it was fine, and no problems the following day, and I would have noticed as was out all day showing it off to anyone who was about!

The law will be on your side as im i had a problem with an astra that i got the missus a while back it ended up being the ecu we seeked advice and were told that the defect would have been there before we bought it and they didnt have a leg to stand on and had to have the car back. I would get on to them straight away.

does it smoke on boost? jack the car up and pull the intercooler pipe and/or the precat off the turbo to see if any oil has passed through the seals.

Don't really want to have to do the 300 mile round trip to take it back, but going to call him today and explain whats going on.

No smoke on boost, and this morning I didn't notice any smoke at all, however the turbo was whining as i gently pulled away and i could smell burning oil. I will get the hose off tomorrow for a look as no time today with work and "Inception".

Will definately take a look at the regional section, meets sounds fun.

Yeh I know, had plenty of experience (Renault 11 & 21 Turbo's, Celica GT4, Passat 20v Turbo etc) and never heard this sort of whine before at low revs, and only when cold, but then with the smoke i'm probably getting paranoid now!!!
