How much waxoyl needed for the MK4?

I've virtually decided not to get my rear arch seen to & i'm just going to go with it as it is & waxoyl everything in sight under the car, except exhaust obviously.

Could do with better drying weather as i would use the jetwash at work to blast crud off.

Anyway, just browsing the Halfords site, there's a 2.5L & a 5L tin. I don't want to buy in more than i need, but i also don't want to run out part way through.

Anyone done this before & can advise how much is needed?

Also, does this - http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/s...egoryId_165594 NEED to be sprayed or can it be brushed on just as well?

I think the mechanic at work said he had a sprayer, whether he still has it i don't know. I know they don't use waxoyl much or even at all though.

That'd be 3L then, which would mean a 5L purchase.

Where did you do? Just under the car, or did you start going to town & doing inside doors etc?

Is a really thick coverage best?

i just did complete underneath, i removed exhaust and heat shield and went to town underneath, gave the rear axel a lick of hammerite smooth black too just to tidy it all up

any holes i filled with it quite generously, and did all 4 archs, i dont think there was anything untouched that wasnt a painted surface

I used a 5 litre one on my old mk2 you'll always discover a place to put some if you don't use it all when you first use it.

I did it with a garden sprayer thingy, one of them pump the pressure up then spray.

Always helps to warm it in some hot water when using one though.

My mk2 was dripping from every hole by the time i'd finished

Be sure it's been dry and hot for a while though nothing worst than trapping damp/ moisture to rot away undetected.
